ShiAnn's Bio and Treatment Plan

ShiAnn is a 15-year-old high school student. When I started thinking about including her in this project, I thought she might be too shy to participate. But she’s become more comfortable and relaxed during her time in treatment. I think she’s glad to be in treatment again. ShiAnn wants to have a “normal” smile where her front teeth do not stick out.

This is a continuation of treatment that was previously stopped due to severe root resorption. ShiAnn is not really a good candidate for any kind of orthodontic treatment, but she really wants to improve her smile. She’s highly motivated and I believe she’ll be very compliant.

I felt compelled to include this case in The Clear Chronicles blog, even though the results are hard to predict. I couldn’t pass up an opportunity to share this case. Root resorption in orthodontics is not well understood and is always a topic of interest. Following this course of treatment is an opportunity to evaluate the effect of aligners on teeth with previous active root resorption – it should prove very interesting.

Chief Complaint: "My front teeth stick out too far."

Initial Treatment Plan

  • Herbst to correct skeletal Class II relationship
  • Full appliances upper and lower arch
  • Ectopic eruption of UL3 is likely to cause loss of UL2
  • UR2: short roots
