Treatment date: 9-8-2008
These are the final 3 aligners of the first set of aligners. Aligner 31 in the upper arch is a surgical shift aligner and will not be worn. This occurs because the surgical shift of the upper arch is read by the Treat software as a change in position of the upper arch; thus another aligner is manufactured.
Elastic wear is currently producing the simulated surgical shift. Daniel is wearing the aligners well and has not had a problem with the elastics.
Today’s visit is the last chance to make any alteration in the aligners to obtain full correction of rotations, or other movements that have been slightly lagging. We added dimples to the following locations: tooth 27 (LR3) – mesial facial near the gingival margin, tooth 26 (LR2) – lingual on both the mesial and distal near the gingival margin, and tooth 8 (UR1) – distal facial near the gingival margin. In an effort to make the dimples as strong and resilient as possible, one drop of Super Glue was added to each dimple using a wooden toothpick (Figure 6 and Figure 7).
Most contacts measured as light contacts and only one contact required reduction, the contact between teeth 5 and 6, UR4 and UR3 respectively. Even at this late stage of treatment it is necessary to maintain very light contacts to allow the teeth to fully express the movement programmed into the aligners.
At the next visit we plan to remove all attachments, reshape anterior teeth to optimal esthetic shape and contours, and make new PVS impressions for refinement aligners.
