02/13/2009GP/OrthoCone Beam CT Advances in OrthodonticsDr. James Mah
Cone-beam CT Provides for exquisite anatomic detail and 3-D visualization not previously available in orthodontics. Both hardware and software are advancing at an unprecedented pace for any dental technology, with a 100% increase in CBCT installations in 2007. Computer software advances allow for viewing of the craniofacial complex from any chosen point of view, as well as the colorized presentation of the data. The removal of superimposing structures, distortions, and perspective errors provides for unparalleled quality and reliability of the images. This presentation focuses on recent advances in CBCT and how it is used in examination and diagnosis of the patient, and defines possibilities and limits of modeling and manufacturing using 3-D imaging.

05/22/2009OrthoPosterior Intrusion and Closing Anterior Openbites: Invisalign is 1st ChoiceDr. Willy Dayan
Closing the anterior openbite and maintaining that result is a challenge in the orthodontic treatment of non-growing adult cases. Often, excessive extrusive forces are placed on anterior teeth, and retention of these movements requires long-term fixed retainers. Regardless, relapse of the openbite is common. In addition, these mechanics are not ideal in cases where excess gum tissue display on the smile is a concern. Invisalign treatment aimed at posterior intrusion to allow mandibular autorotation and closure of the openbite without excessive anterior extrusion has proven very effective at treating these cases--often with results not possible with traditional braces and elastics. Invisalign is a first choice to achieve anterior guidance and coupling of the anterior teeth in cases of anterior openbite.

09/25/2009OrthoTreatment of Class II Malocclusion Exclusively with InvisalignDr. Sam Daher
Historically, adult Class II malocclusion has been treated with one of three main approaches: 1) arch development/upper distalization, 2) extraction, and/or 3) orthognathic surgery. While these treatment options remain the same today, the techniques have evolved over the years. Invisalign has proven to be an effective method in treating Class II malocclusion with all three options successfully and efficiently. Dr. Daher will share key strategies and helpful hints to integrate into Class II treatment for a predictable finish.

10/16/2009GP/OrthoOrthodontic Treatment with Invisalign in the Permanent Dentition to Enhance Oral HealthDr. Bob Boyd
Dr. Boyd will discuss the overall oral health benefits of Invisalign. Invisalign treatment results in less plaque and gingival inflammation, mucosal irritation, teeth pain, TMJ pain, and easier dental exams during orthodontic treatment compared to fixed appliances. Another interesting benefit of Invisalign is less tooth wear from clenching and grinding during treatment. This is because teeth surfaces are protected from wear during and after orthodontic treatment because night-time wear of clear retainers acts similarly to a night guard. Invisalign can also offer an alternative to adult bonding and veneering procedures when teeth are healthy and malocclusion is minimal. In addition, when necessary initially, bonding and veneering can be done with less tooth structure removal because well-aligned teeth require less tooth removal in preparation for veneers or composite bonding. This program is recommended for doctors and their staff members.
