Seizing Every Opportunity from the Hygiene Chair

by Angela Wolf, RDH

The hygiene chair is the gateway to fully integrating Invisalign into your practice. It has been proven that the bacteria living in the gums around crowded teeth are much more toxic and destructive than normal bacteria found in healthy mouths. Malocclusion is a dental disease that will inhibit your patients from ever reaching total body health; however, in our efforts to fight periodontal disease, malocclusion continues to remain one of the most overlooked risk factors. This seminar is for doctors and team members who want to take their soft tissue management program to the next level by seizing every opportunity from the hygiene chair.

Malocclusion is a Disease

by Dr. David Ostreicher

Increasing evidence suggests that periodontal disease is a risk factor for atherosclerosis, cardiovascular disease, diabetes and low birth weight infants. Furthermore, evidence-based research also shows that eliminating crowding reduces periodontal disease. Invisalign treatment is becoming an important adjunct to conventional periodontal treatment. By reducing inflammation in the mouth, the patient will ultimately eliminate one of the many risk factors for cardiovascular disease. It is imperative that the GP dentist not only recognize the importance of reducing inflammation by utilizing the Invisalign system, but also informs the patient of the direct relationship of crowded teeth and periodontal disease to atherosclerosis, cardiovascular disease, diabetes and low birth weight infants.

Invisalign’s Role in Comprehensive Care

by Dr. Ben Miraglia

Comprehensive care dentistry involves the careful and thorough planning of the periodontal, implant, restorative, and Invisalign phases of treatment. Sequencing these treatment modalities properly will greatly enhance the clinical outcome in complex cases involving multiple implants. The implants offer excellent anchorage, which results in significant and healthy tooth movements in reasonable amounts of time. The timing of the Invisalign phase of treatment can vary depending on the specific needs of the case. Invisalign’s role in comprehensive care dentistry is to improve periodontal health, correct the malocclusion, set up the case for final restorations and, of course, provide the patient with a cosmetically appealing result.
